The cap: 5,625x against 12,000x#
The two ceilings are built as differently as they are sized. Joker Never Retires tops out at 12,000x, which is EUR 900,000 at its EUR 75 maximum bet. 3 Piggies of Bank tops out at 5,625x, which is EUR 112,500 at the EUR 20.00 maximum here. On the raw multiple the clinic wins by a little over two to one; on the cash figure it wins by rather more, because its bet range runs nearly four times higher.
What the numbers do not show is how differently the two ceilings are constructed. In 3 Piggies of Bank the path is entirely additive and entirely visible. Coins lock where they fall, each Wolf Coin carries 1x to 10x the bet, the Collect Coin takes a value equal to the sum of everything else on the board, and filling all 15 positions pays the Grand at 1,000x on top. You can watch a big round being assembled, position by position, and the respin counter resetting to five on every new Coin is what gives it room to grow.
That construction has an interesting consequence for the ladder. The Grand at 1,000x is not the cap (the round cap is 5,625x) which tells you that a maximum round here is Coin values and the Grand arriving together, rather than one enormous award. The Major sits at 200x and the Mystery bank’s best single Coin at 150x, so nothing on the board reaches the top alone. Three of the four ladder prizes are dealt by a special Coin during the round; only the Grand has the visible condition of a full board.
The ceilings sit differently against their own ladders, too. Joker Never Retires holds its range in a global multiplier that climbs through a cascading round and resets on every new base-game spin, which is why its 12,000x is a curve you watch build rather than a column you read. Here the column beside the grid tells you the whole story in cash at your stake, EUR 15.00, EUR 50.00, EUR 200.00 and EUR 1,000 at the EUR 1.00 bet, and the 5,625x cap is what the Coin values plus the Grand can add up to. One game asks you to trust the climb; the other prints the ceiling on the screen before you spin.
Pace: low volatility against high#
This is the dimension that actually decides which game you should be playing, and it is the one where the two are furthest apart.
3 Piggies of Bank is rated low volatility with a 25.2% hit frequency. Joker Never Retires is rated 4 out of 5 with a 29.41% hit frequency. Those two figures look contradictory until you separate them: hit frequency counts how often something comes back, while volatility describes how much of the total return is concentrated in rare events. The clinic pays slightly more often and pays far less on most of those occasions, banking its return into features that arrive seldom.
In practice the vault feels like this: roughly one spin in four returns something, usually a card-suit line worth EUR 0.20 to EUR 2.00 at the EUR 1.00 bet, with a four-of-a-kind on a vault symbol appearing often enough to keep things interesting. The balance drains gently rather than in steps, which is exactly what you want if the plan is to sit somewhere for an hour.
The practical consequence is bankroll. A low-volatility game lets you set a stake and keep it; a 4-out-of-5 game asks you to fund a longer wait, and the wider bet range on the other side compounds that. Our strategy page does the arithmetic for this game: a EUR 100 budget is a thousand spins at EUR 0.10 and a hundred at EUR 1.00, before any buys.
RTP: four configurations against three#
Both games are set by the casino, which is the single most important thing to understand about either RTP figure.
3 Piggies of Bank ships in four configurations (96%, 94%, 92% and 90.5%) and Yggdrasil’s own shop window describes the game as 96% and more, quoting the top build. Joker Never Retires ships in three: 96.27%, 94.31% and 92.28%. Line them up and the top builds are within a third of a percentage point of each other, which makes the headline comparison a wash.
The bottom of the range is where they differ. The lowest configuration here is 90.5%; the lowest on the other side is 92.28%. A player who ends up on the worst available build of each game is measurably better off in the clinic. That is not a reason to pick one over the other, though: it is a reason to read the RTP line in the game info panel before raising the bet, which takes about four seconds and settles the question for the table you are actually sitting at.
Both studios also publish a separate return figure for the buy side. Here, all five purchases carry a theoretical 94.0%, identical across the menu, so the choice between buys is about which bank you want rather than which is better value. Our RTP page works the four configurations through with the cap and the buy prices costed at three stakes.
The way into the bonus: 120x against 3x#
The two price lists describe two different ideas of what a purchase is for.
| Game | Cheapest entry | What it is | Top of the menu |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 Piggies of Bank | 120x the bet | The Collect bank, a full Lock ’em & Load ’em round | 250x for all three banks |
| Joker Never Retires | 3x the bet | A modified-spin mode rather than a bonus round | 250x for its larger free-spins buy |
The headline gap is misleading, and it is worth unpicking. The 3x entry on the other side buys a spin mode, not a bonus; its comparable full-bonus purchases sit at 100x and 250x the bet, which puts the two games in the same territory after all. The genuine difference is that one studio sells a cheap way to change the base game and the other sells only the bonus.
Our menu is five items deep and priced in the open: Collect 120x, Mystery 150x, a randomly selected bank 150x, Double 180x, all three at once 250x. At EUR 0.10 a spin that is EUR 12.00 to EUR 25.00, which makes trying each behaviour once an affordable evening. At EUR 1.00 it is EUR 120.00 to EUR 250.00, which is a planned expense rather than an impulse.
In both columns a buy price is a price: 120x here means the round costs the same as 120 base spins at your stake, and neither studio’s price list says anything about how often a feature arrives on its own. One rule applies to both games equally, too. A buy menu exists only where the market allows one, so the panel in front of you is the list that counts, and the same logic explains a missing auto-play or fast-spin button. The features page explains what each of our three banks actually does.
Grid and lines: 25 fixed against 20#
The frames differ more than the numbers suggest. 3 Piggies of Bank runs 5x3 with 15 positions and 25 fixed paylines; Joker Never Retires runs 5x4 with 20 win lines. More rows and fewer lines is a different animal: a taller grid gives a feature more room to fill, while fewer lines concentrates the base game into a narrower set of results.
For this game the 15-position board is not incidental: it is the bonus. Lock ’em & Load ’em ends either on zero respins or on all 15 positions being filled, and a full board is what pays the Grand at 1,000x the bet. The grid size is literally the win condition, which is a neat piece of design and something a taller board could not do in the same way.
The payline rule is worth stating because it catches people out in both games. Here, wins build left to right from the leftmost reel and only the highest combination on each line is paid. There is nothing to switch on or off: all 25 lines are permanently active, so the cost of a spin is exactly the bet you set, and the only lever you hold is the stake. Our how-to-play page walks through what that means spin by spin.
The bet ranges share a floor and split at the top. Both start at EUR 0.10. Ours stops at EUR 20.00; the clinic runs to EUR 75.00. That single difference explains most of the gap between EUR 112,500 and EUR 900,000 in the cash column, and it also explains why the two games ask for very different bankrolls even when the multiples look close.
Which table suits you#
The honest answer depends on what you want from the evening, and the two profiles barely overlap.
You want an evening. Take the vault. Low volatility, a 25.2% hit frequency, 25 fixed lines live on every spin and a EUR 0.10 floor make 3 Piggies of Bank a table you can sit at without drama, and the buy menu is there when the mood changes. The ceiling of 5,625x is well above what a calm slot usually offers, so you are not trading away range for comfort to the extent you might expect.
You want the ceiling. Take the clinic. 12,000x and a bet range to EUR 75.00 put a far bigger number on the table, and a 4-out-of-5 volatility rating is the honest price of it. Fund the wait, or do not sit down.
You want both. They are not exclusive, and the sensible order is to learn the calmer game first: the mechanics here are visible and the pay table is printed in cash at your stake, which makes it the better place to work out how you like to bet.
